What a great first day!

Wow...what a great first day we had! I was so proud of how well everyone did today! The kids seemed to enjoy having the opportunity to color and make new friends as everyone arrived this morning.

This morning, we started off with a gingerbread hunt. We put our gingerbread cookies in the oven and when we went to take them out, all 22 of them had escaped! So, we had to run around the school to find them! We went to the music room, nurse, library, technology room, art room PE room and then finally found them in our classroom. Those sneaky gingerbread men! Below is a picture from our hunt this morning.

After our gingerbread hunt, we went to recess. I think every child enjoyed this part! This usually becomes their favorite part of the day!

After recess, we read The Kissing Hand. I always read this book on the first day of school. It's about Chester Raccoon and how he copes with his first day of school. I won't tell you about it because I want your little one to. That was their homework for tonight. Their art activity should be in their notebook.

Then, we went to lunch and had a little rest time. Before we knew it, it was time to go home! All in all, it was a great day! I am confident that we are going to have a great year!! :)

Meet the Teacher Monday!

Meet the Teacher is finally here! I wanted to write a post today to give you some more information about me.

My name is Ashley Pfountz. When I first started at GHES, my name was Ashley Crawford. Some of you may know me better by that name. I am originally from Sumter, SC.  After high school, I moved to Rock Hill to go to Winthrop University. I lived on campus for 2 years and moved to Charlotte my last 2 1/2 years. At Winthrop, I studied Early Childhood Education and Spanish. Before my senior year, I studied abroad in Madrid Spain for a summer at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. What an amazing experience that was!

After graduating from Winthrop, I began teaching kindergarten at GHES as a long term sub. The next school year, I subbed and became a kindergarten assistant hoping that the following year a kindergarten position would open up. Thankfully, it did and I've been in B106 ever since! I enjoy meeting new students every year and working with Mrs. Crawford. Coming to work everyday is easy when you enjoy the person you work with and the students you teach!

Outside of school

Here is a picture of me and my husband. We were married on March 24, 2012 on Lake Wylie.

I have a brother and sister. Their names are Allison and Brian and they are twins! Allison lives in Summerville, SC and Brian lives in Sumter, SC. I don't see them nearly enough!!

Here is our dog Betty! She is an 8 year old beagle/lab mix. She one of the laziest dogs I know but so sweet!

Over the summer, we finished building our first house in Indian Land! I am so happy to be living closer to Fort Mill. The drive from uptown every morning was getting to be so long!

Over the past few years, I have enjoyed playing ultimate frisbee. I play year round on a competitive league  through Sportslink. It's such a fun game!

I quit playing 5 months ago when I found out I was pregnant. I hope to start playing again once the baby is born!

Speaking of baby, we will be expecting a baby boy in December. The due date is December 18 and I am hoping to make it until we leave for our break in December. I will take 6-8 weeks depending on when the baby is born. While I am out, we will have a long term sub filling in for me. This person is a certified teacher and will follow lesson plans that I leave for him/her. I will introduce you to this person as soon as I'm notified who it will be!

A few of my favorite things:
Color - yellow and pink
Restaurant - Outback (I worked here for 8 years during and after college)
NFL team - Carolina Panthers
College football - VT Hokies
Snack - Cheez its
Store - Target
Candy - Anything gummy

Well that's a little bit of information about me. I look forward to getting to know all of you this afternoon and throughout the school year!!

Time for a new school year!

The first day of school is quickly approaching! I received my class list today and I'm so excited to start getting things ready! We will have 22 students this year. We have 11 boys and 11 girls. As soon as everyone has their class assignment, I will put the list up on the class website. Maybe your child will see a friend in our class! :)

I can't wait to meet you all on August 19! Below is a little information to help you get to know me a little better.

This will be my 5th year teaching kindergarten. I graduated from Winthrop in 2007. After graduating, I spent about a year and a half subbing at GHES. I knew Gold Hill was where I wanted to teach, so I was really excited when a kindergarten position finally opened up! My husband and I have had an exciting few years. We were married in 2012, just finished building our dream home and we are expecting our first baby boy in December!
