A Funny Story and A Few Reminders

I will start off with a funny story from a few days ago. One of the students didn't bring a drink for lunch. When Mrs. Crawford realized she didn't have a drink, she asked, "Are you able to drink milk?" (We have a milk allergy and she just wanted to double check. She was going to have this student purchase a milk from the cafeteria.) The student replies, "Oh yes! I can drink milk. I just can't drink beer or wine!" How can you respond to that besides giggle? :)

Tomorrow we ask that the children wear their favorite college gear for ESPN's College Color Day. Here is the link: http://promo.espn.go.com/espn/contests/clc/2012/.

Remember..there is no school Monday, September 3!! Yahoo! :)

A new week and big smiles!

Today is our 2nd day of our first full week! Yesterday, we started our full center rotations. The kids did really well in listening and knowing what to do! Check out our center board below and some pictures from free centers last week!

This is where they look to see which center they go to each day.

Play-Do has quickly become a favorite center with the girls!

See ya later alligators! :)

Cheers for no tears!!

Well none of the kids cried....I don't know about the parents! :)

Today was great! All of our new students seem to really enjoy kindergarten. Today, we read the book Llama Llama Misses Mama. We talked about how we felt when we came to school this morning. Most of them said that they were excited! Then, we were going to have gingerbread men for snack. However, when we went to take them out of the oven, it was empty! He must have ran away! We went on a hunt around the school only to find that he had landed back in our kindergarten classroom! (We do this little gingerbread hunt every year on the first day of school. This hunt introduces the kids to all of the related arts teachers, nurse and principal.) The kids were really into it. It was so awesome to see their surprised faces when we found each gingerbread clue!

I don't know about the kids, but I was absolutely exhausted at the end of the day. It really flew by! I am always happy that the first week of school is only 3 days. I don't know if I could handle an entire week!

Thanks!

Thanks to you all for coming last night to Meet the Teacher! I really enjoyed meeting all of you. I look forward to getting to know you all a little better once school starts. Meet the Teacher can be overwhelming when it comes to getting to know you all! Mrs. Crawford and I were here from 7:00-5:30 yesterday. Needless to say it was a long day! However, it was nice to arrive home to dinner being ready! Hopefully that'll stick around once school starts! Our poor dog is not happy at all that I'm back in school. She has really enjoyed being able to lay around the house over the summer. We took her on a long walk around downtown last night. We stopped to spy on the filming of Homeland for a little bit. We saw Claire Danes signing autographs. They are usually filming in an old fire station around the corner from our place. However, last night they were on the corner of Tryon and 7th.

Last night, I gave you some links regarding our photos, class website, etc. To make it easy on you and the kids, I use a website called Symbaloo. It's kinda laid out like apps on an iPhone. Except for apps, you will find links to websites.
1. Go to www.symbaloo.com
2. Click LogIn. Username is pfountza@fort-mill.k12.sc.us
3. Password is 123456
4. Once you're logged in, you will see several tabs at the top. They will read "Students" Parents" and "Ashley" Here I have all of my favorite sites bookmarked. Feel free to have the children use this site as well. We will use this in the classroom. At this age, it's much easier on the kids and the teacher when they websites don't have to by typed in! :)

Here is our sweet dog Betty. She is our 7 year old Beagador. :)
I have tried and tried to rotate this picture, but it just won't work!

I have faith that everything will work out in time :) If you have your school supplies, feel free to go ahead and bring them in. We will have spots designated for everything.

Hope all of the kids have received the note I sent them last week. Can't wait to meet everyone tomorrow!!

Just a few days left!

Can you believe that we are 15 days away from our first day of school? I have enjoyed the summer, but I am ready to get back to school. Make sure you add August 20 to your calendar. PTA is having a BBQ from 1:30-3:00. Meet the Teacher will be from 3:00-5:00. Last year, I assigned a time to parents to come to Meet the Teacher. I had everyone sit down while I explained what happens in a typical day. This was also a chance for parents to ask questions. I am going to do my best to get an email out to you all sometime today to see who is coming to the BBQ. Hopefully those of you going can just stop by the classroom after the BBQ is over. If you have your school supplies by that Monday, feel free to bring them with you. This tends to make the first day of school a little easier on you and your little one. Again don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have before the first day of school! :)
